Gift for Mentor?

Hopefully this is the right place for this;
I am seeking advice for what to get the man that is helping me learn the mandolin. He has been very helpful in sharing his knowledge so I would like to purchase a gift for a thanks.

I have some ideas but thought to ask here. He has a Collings & we are both near 70 years young if that enters into this.

Gryphon strings has some great mando peg winders, made by a guy that works there, from vintage pens caps, in the frank ford menu. Imho, they are gorgeous.shop, “franks corner”.

Fwiw, i recently was given a dedicated mando peg winder. Its sooo much better than the guitar peg winders i have been using for years. Had no idea.

It makes changing strings on a mando less hassle.

You might also consider getting your friend an Ingles Violin stand for his mandolin. They are excellent mandolin stands for those times when you just need to set it down for a minute and don't want to go through putting it away in its case.

A set of the spendy Thomastiks or a gift card for a Blue Chip/Red Bear. A nice custom strap from Harrison, El Dorado, Baileys, Sully and so many others. For a small token of appreciation a pack of the new Dunlop Primetones and a nice pick box to hold them, if he uses one a music stand, instrument holder (I like the Hercules). Maybe something non music related like a gift card to his favorite restaurant/coffee place or theatre. NFI in any of this just thoughts as I’m sitting here with my morning coffee.

I like the peg winder idea & the stand sounds interesting as well.
Trying to stay away from money so not sure about a gift card even though he would be able to then get his own gift. Steering more towards a gift that he wouldn't necessarily get himself (last year I got him a pick case with mandolin inlay from Hill Country String Works). Would like it to be mando related more so that he would always be reminded of his gift of time to me since we may never get together after this winter.
We are in an RV Park where we both stay for the winter. Amazing how helpful his knowledge has been to me being new to any instrument especially these fretted demons!

The Ingles stand folds flat (like most stands do) and is made of very sturdy steel. It would store and travel easy. Good luck on your search. My late father and step-mother traveled a similar circuit.

+ 1 on the Ingles stands Mike is recommending. I have a few and they are solid and stable.

How about a copy of Sheri Mignano's "Italian Mandolin Heroes in America" as a give for your mandolin padrino?

An amazing book which is highly recommended for any mandolin player.....

I have the Ingles stand. I dropped it and broke the plastic part of the tightening mechanism … there are no spare parts available.
