That last ad was interesting. What is a "Mandolin Hand" that Mr. Martin signed?

So I had to ask for more pics
My comment to him was :
Can you post more coastal photos so I can see what I am bidding on? Why would anyone bid on a mandolin based on a sunset photo?
And his reply was:

Relisted with another ocean view. I sent him a message asking if he was selling a mandolin or beach front property.

Let it go, what a strange listing!

I might be tempted if it were "foot signed".

On a related note, the internet has "spoiled" us by making online shopping so easy, use of pictures, ease of payment, etc. Imagine a time less than 25 years ago, believe it or not, that most of the vintage guitar business was conducted by one-line descriptions with no picture ads in Vintage Guitar magazine and various private listings, such as Gruhn's monthly flyer. A typical example might be: 1956 Gibson Les Paul Standard, goldtop, all orig, EXC, shows lacquer checking, OHSC, plays and sounds great, $1750. No pictures were necessary -- everybody knew what a Les Paul looked like! An ad like that was enough for a person to pick up the phone and ask for more info and either send a money order or bank wire to purchase the instrument. Most stores offered 48 hour approval. Surprisingly, things worked great under the old system........
