Default Steve Martin Signed mandolin on Ebay

I am a big fan of Steve Martin . I love mandolins too. https://ebay.us/OBCRnn
This seemed perfect but I can't see the mandolin in either picture. When questioned he claims he doesn't know how to post a picture. His other listing has pictures. Whats up?

Also seems to a lack of other information about the instrument. He's also managed to add some pictures to the listing. Of sunsets....

    I'd steer well clear

The sunsets are a nice touch. Think I'll try that.

For $2500 the mandolin should say the brand name on the headstock or label. At least he could put that info out so you know what you are buying.

Quite strange . . . when you look at past items that have sold, they have actual photos, and the seller has 100% feedback.

    Quite strange, indeed . . . . .

Unless it's Steve's Loar I'd probably pass on this one
Seriously though, it could be a $50 mandolin and even with a legitimate Steve Martin signature I can't imagine it would command that sort of price. I'd want more info for sure!

There's only one Mandolin Steve Martin has ever had his hands on that I'm interested in but, it's on long term loan... I got to play on it once, too. I still sounded like me.

Run away. He's been on ebay for 20 years and he can't post a pic or any kind of description?

Sounds like an account that's either been hacked or sold by the original owner to a scammer.

Now, that's funny! You should have asked if he had copies to sell!

I used to own a Cheap mando that I got Dawg to autograph...I don’t think it raised the value any...it didn’t make it sound any better.

And like Gary Hudson wrote, "There are a lot of guys named Steve Martin".

I thought that fruitcake Ebay post was hilarious, but when I returned and read all these responses, I was once again for the umpteenth time today reminded of why I love this message board.

For $2,500 it better come with one of Steve's arrow hats.

Only five hours to go! Better grab it before it goes away! Forever!

I mean, have you seen this thing? It's as pretty as a sunset!

For the record, I tried to look for a way to report this thing. It's just about promised to be a scam. Ebay though... Not a single way to report, call, or contact on things like this without either lying about what I'm calling about on their website, or actually bidding.

I think they don't want to hear about it.

I put a watch on it just to get the seller's hopes up. While eBay could do a better job policing these things, this is a clear case of buyer beware and shame on you if you fall for it.

Hard to say what constitutes fraud....in this case. There is every reason to believe if you bid $2500 (and win...lol) you will be sent a $50 imported mandolin that was actually hand-signed by Steve Martin, which the seller believes gives added value.....

It is, however, very doubtful that the mandolin itself is worth anywhere near the $2500 starting price, IMHO.....like you say, there is a reason it is not pictured, right???

OTOH, there is a tiny possibility that the seller is Steve Martin, himself, and pulling the ultimate joke, will send you his Loar complete with his signature -- just wanting it to go to a true fan.......

And, there is a way out if you didn't like the mandolin, and you would be protected by Paypal and eBay -- in the item specifics the brand is listed as "Martin" -- so if you were sent anything other than a genuine Martin, you could return it "not being as described in listing."
