    Default NMD... Generosity indeed!

So shortly before the Christmas and the New year, I decided it was time to sell my Eastman. I gave Marty Jacobson a shout through email, and he was available for me to come down to the shop to have him look over the Eastman and see if it needed any attention before I put it up for sale. I also had him do a little fret-work to the SA because I had a fret that had popped out of place. While I was there, I was admiring all of his instruments he had hanging around the shop and chatting about a little bit of everything and finding that we had quite a bit in common.

In the midst of the conversation I mentioned that I'd been considering an Oval Hole for my next big purchase. He pointed to one of his Nautilus Oval Mandolins he had hanging on the wall ant told me it was one of his prototypes and to try it out. I played it a little and liked it. He proceeded to tell me that he would clean it up and put new strings on it and let me borrow it for a while to see if I liked the oval hole sound.

So, I took him up on his offer and yesterday I went back out to his shop and picked up his second prototype Nautilus Oval hole prototype to keep and play indefinitely, as long as I like. ... Incredibly generous IMHO. so of course I wanted to share with you all because I thought that was very very kind of him, and I thought you all should know what a gem we have amongst us!

I've been so incredibly busy this weekend, that I've only had about an hour to play it, but I am really liking it indeed!

    Many many thanks to Marty!

Good story. I love hearing things like that. Kudos, Marty.

Nice! I met Marty once and have exchanged emails with him on several occasions. Incredibly nice guy for sure! I think I may have played that mandolin you are borrowing, if so you are in for a treat! Enjoy!

I'm waiting for Marty's neighbor's house to go up for sale so I can buy it and move in next door. Lots of great mandolins on the wall to play and there never was a nicer guy. Not just a skilled luthier, an innovative builder as well. You are lucky to be so close.

Marty, you should look for another beer/bluegrass festival and host another jam around it. Arm twist David Mold to get in on it and I'll be driving over !
No matter where I go, there I am...Unless I'm running a little late.

Really no big deal, my new shop has limited space and I'm in a stuff reduction mode (because I've been in a money reduction mode for too long).

Definitely need to have another picking party. I have a MUCH better place for it now. The shop's part of the house.

Now that I'm finally up and running again, as of last Friday, I need to publish a date and then use the resulting panic to motivate me to get some stuff finished.

I decided that since I now have a very nice oval hole, it's seriously time to work on Bach's Prelude ... it's going well so far.
