    Default Balletti a tre (D. Gabrielli, 1684), mandolin/mandocello trios

Domenico Gabrielli (1659-1690): "Balletti, Gighe, Correnti, Alemande e Sarabande", Op. 1, 1684
    1. Balletto Primo (Allegro) - 0:04
    2. Balletto Terzo (Largo) - 1:28
    3. Sarabanda (Allegro) - 2:43

These are three short pieces from a collection of ballets and other tunes for three instruments by Domenico Gabrielli. Gabrielli is mainly known as a performer and composer for cello -- he was one of the first great cello virtuosi - but these pieces are scored for two violins and "violone", which may or may not have been a reference to the cello. For my recordings I have used two mandolins and a mandocello, which suits the pieces well, I think.

I have played them straight from the urtext edition at IMSLP:
