Default Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Eric Idle's Guitar Case!

oft times i've seen the request for an odd size case to meet the needs of an odd size instrument, dropped into this video tonight and its really neat to watch-about an hour.
I've worked with fabric, fit, contact cement, and there were parts of this that made me nervous(as if i were there making this). Adam is funny, all over the place, and spastic it seems, but it just enhances the tension of getting the job done.

    Don't try this at home-lol

Entertaining video. I had to look it up to discover that 'spastic', which in British English is extremely offensive, in American English is not at all so. So I learned something new, too.

Just before Christmas I spent a couple of sick days at home watching old Monty Python videos on YouTube - and this one popped up in the mix. Cool stuff . . . and amazing work.

Funny video, but I am not sure if this counts as a case. It's more of a gig bag to me.

saw that a few weeks ago. Thought it was one of the worst case designs I'd seen in a long time. I wouldn't trust it myself. Handle's on the wrong side of the case, webbing for the handle doesn't wrap around the case, material is uber prone to wear and dirt, support for the neck of the instrument bears on the end of the headstock, and I think there was something else that was wonky. Still, it was entertaining.

Fun watch! Agree there are some design issues, but I thought it was pretty good for 1 person, 1 day. I thought the handle placement was strange but maybe that's what the customer asked for? Anyway, fun to watch.

It's almost a "gag" bag if you translate the badge on the pocket.

Yep, gig bag at best, IMHO. I was trying to figure out the finances........OK, Eric Idle is well known, but.......how can Idle fly him out to pick up the guitar, have tea, discuss, then fly back, spend 8 hours making the case, then fly an assistant out with the guitar and finished case.....looks like a minimum of $1000 labor for rush service, then another $1000 for airfare.......that's $2000 for a gig bag...what am I missing?.....unless Savage just wants to say he made a case for Eric Idle, his hero.....and is willing to donate his time........or maybe Idle paid him $5000 for it? Who knows? Doesn't make sense to me financially, but was entertaining and that probably was the point, I'm guessing.....
