    Default Mandolin Pricing

Lately, I have seen a lot of good quality mandolins for sale with some pretty high prices. Since there are so many available I keep asking myself what is holding the prices up? I am not looking for a mandolin so it is more a matter of curiosity because the mandolin market seems to defy what I learned in Econ 101.

There are not as many of the high priced ones available. Supply and demand....Econ 101

In my personal experience of buying and selling mandolins, list price and final sale price don't always match up. Sometimes they are far apart.

The mandolins offered for sale by private individuals seem to have more normal pricing.

It would be interesting to do a poll. How many Cafe members have 15k cash available, then 10k, 5k, 3k, 1.5k, 1k, and .5k.
    I stress available.

My gut says there are enough with 15k to take every Gilchrist built. Get into the 3k level and you have more buyers competing for that older Flatiron. In between there might be fewer buyers competing for that used Gibson or Collings F5.

I've noticed that Gryphon has a Northfield F5s available about half the time, but a Big Mon almost always. That is about a 1.5k more which is a lot in the real world of us mere mortals. I was just there and it would be between the BigMon and an MF for my 4.5k.

Agreed. For the most part that has been my experience.
