    Default 'Mandolin d'Amore' on eBay

Not everybody's cup of tea I'm sure, but it looks and sounds very striking. Looks well made, too. No bids yet - must be worth $400 of somebody's money.

That's cool - I'd use for some early music. A somewhat sparser approach - where there's room for light and shade - is beautiful on these type of instruments, imo.

Fascinating! It was built in 2001, and the seller (and presumably the player on the video) is the builder. So maybe it's the one and only Mandolin d'amore?

The Youtube clip gives a detailed description of the unusual construction. It's well worth watching. Thanks for posting, Tony.

And here is a hardanger mandolin by Harald Hougaard, sort of a mandolin version of a hardingfele or hardanger fiddle.

I'd imagine it to fetch more than 400, but I might have bid had I not just bought a hardanger fdl. It looks like it would make great sound. It's like - a mndln for solo playing. Very cool.

I like the sound, wish I had an extra $400, but the house needs a new roof (garage roof fell in!?!?!!)

Very interesting. Almost wish I could bid on it. Betting it would sound cool in a duet with a nyckelharpa.

I would imagine that there would be way too much sympathetic vibration in that room. 12 sympathetics on a NH and four on the VDA. Yikes!

There are a number of groups that have hardanger and nyckelharpa. Rydvall Jmelva have 3 CDs out. And it appears there are a few other groups that do similar instrumentation. So, I don't think it would be too much. Maybe if you added a hurdy gurdy.
