    Default High Strung 12 string guitar - nice!

    When 4 or 6, or 8 strings are just 'not enough' there are other options. While looking for flatwound strings for my guitar I found Joe Gore on youtube. He has a favorite little 12 string guitar. (and it is rapidly becoming my favorite too). It sounds like a mandolin - an alternative to an Octave Mandolin? Yep, enjoy the video.

    Veilletet Avante Gryphon, a small-scale 12-string tuned nearly an octave above standard.

    I've been looking for one of those Papoose 12-strings - they prbly didn't make them for very long as they seem quite rare.

    Someone sold a nice one (carbon, IIRC) through the classifieds not too long ago; I nearly bought it - but I had moved on from fretted strings by then.

    What I would play on it would be Latin stuff - more like what tiple, cuatro, bandurria, violas caipira, sertaneja...

    Very nice. Nicely played and your mini 12 sounds sweet. I want one of those.

    Joe said that;
    "the instrument is designed to be tuned a minor 7th above standard."

    He tuned it to C G C F A D. So the tuning is just a transposition of (low to high) DADGBE.

    The original suite is in G major. Joe is fingering it in D. So it comes out as C.

    I reviewed one of those Veillette Gryphons for Acoustic Guitar magazine back at the beginning of this century. I loved that thing! Super fun to play and unique, mesmerizing sound. It took a lot of will power not to buy the thing after the week I spent with it.
