Default Who's Who in this Photo

In this photo of of Earl Scruggs and John Hartford ... wanna play who's who?

Looks to me like Ronnie McCoury playing mandolin, appears to be Grandpa Jones with head down on sofa listening to something Archie Campbell is saying. I could be wrong on those two, hard to recognize them in street clothes with their faces obscured. Anybody agree or disagree on those guys? Any guesses on the other folk? Location and approximate date? Any other comments?

Mark--It's difficult for me to say that's Archie Campbell in the middle, however that sure seems to be Grandpa Jones. The gentlemen surrounding John Hartford are the great Byron Berline (standing) and banjoist Larry Perkins (overalls), a close friend of Earl in his later years.

Thanks Bogle, that fellow looked very familiar to me, but I didn't know his name. The photo is too fuzzy for any certainty on most of the folk in the background, but I'd swear that looks like Ramona Jones' hairdo to the left behind Ronnie's shoulder. This had to be just one of those fun pickings at somebody's home near Nashville.

As far as a date goes, the '70s called and want their haircuts and eyeglasses back.

Who is on guitar? Looks a bit like Tony Rice. But not positive.

And another vote for it being Archie Campbell talking to Grandpa Jones.

Well I'd say late 80's early 90's since Ronnie McCoury is standing there with his Gil!

That was my first thought, too, but didn't Randy always have curly hair? The hair style is closer to TR. But that's why I don't know.

Not Tony Rice there (I'm pretty sure, because really doesn't look like TR to me), but may be Gary Scruggs.

Here's a cool all-star line-up on Hee Haw from about 1983 (baby Marty Stuart on mandolin). Video quality has a few issues.

Earl Scruggs, Byron Berline, Norman Blake, Roy Clark, Marty Stuart, John Hartford ...

(Brief cameo Ricky Skaggs & Grandpa Jones at the end)

    Hi Folks-

I believe that Roy Acuff is the fiddle player in between Byron Berline and John Hartford.

Agree. Probably the reason I got fixated on it was the guitar looks like his D-28 with the bound fretboard and enlarged soundhole. However, it's more likely someone just playing a Santa Cruz TR or Collings CW.

And Russ might be correct in that it's Josh Crowe. Definitely looks more like him than TR.
