Strings for a Gibson TG-50
Hi there!
I just received my first archtop tenor guitar, a Gibson TG-50, and I discovered that the owner had put strings for Chicago tuning. I didnt pay attention and the strings broke.
What strings would you recommend for a TG-50? I would like to tune mine in GDAE, because I already have a Martin tenor tuned in CGDA. Have you tried it on a TG-50?
G D A E 23" Scale
040 025 015 011 x-Light
042 027 017 012 Light
045 029 019 013 Medium
according to this:
http://rycooder.nl/pages/tenor_gauges.htm
La Bella 700T (.009, .013P, .020W, .027) Pyramid Tenor Guitar Strings (.010 .016 .024 .036) and D'Addario EJ66 (.010, .014 .022 .032) are too light and I'm struggling to find something else
Maybe should I search for usual guitar strings?
I am curious to know if anyone wondered the same before as I have seen some people here talking about TG-50. I'd love to play mine !

Re: Strings for a Gibson TG-50
GDAE 23” scale..... a good stating point would be 12p 20w 30w 45w.
You might want to adjust them a little bit to suit you but, those gauges are tried and tested on many styles of tenor guitar.

Thank you! Would you have a brand in mind that would suit an archtop tenor?

Re: Strings for a Gibson TG-50
I buy all my strings as singles from my local music store.
Most are D’Addario but he sells Newtone as well.
Does your guitar take loop ends or can it except ball ends, you can order either but most shops only carry singles in ball ends.
