    Default Modern/Irish Cittern

Built this instrument for a commission. It's going to Brazil.

I'm curious - how do you find the sound-hole insert effects the sound? I've nearly completed a classical guitar with a similar lute-style insert, and the sound with the insert in place while perfectly pleasant was rather underwhelming in the volume/bass departments. Adding a sound port made a night and day difference for the better...

I don't find it affects the sound much, however, I do factor it in with the size of the soundhole, especially with my carved ones on lutes (rather than this type from behind). Basially, make the soundhole a little bigger overall and it cancels it out, because these effectively make the soundhole a little smaller.
