    Default strumming help

Hiya guys. merry Christmas and a happy New Year to you all...!!
I am about one week into learning my mandolin, i am currently picking out the tune "wild mountain thyme" and hoping i can put a tune together instead of just the single notes that i am learning, i am also learning "Maggie May" i have got the few mandolin parts sorted, but i need to get a strum pattern sorted for my chords, i am also learning "Dirty old Town"...so my question is, how do i know what strum pattern to use? i am a complete novice and i cant actually tell what i should use, hopefully my ear will know in time, but any advice would be greatly useful.
    Thanks guys..

Mods, can you change my username to
