Default Lute Book Lullaby - William Ballet (17th Century)

    An easy, beautiful Christmas offering.

This simple carol by 17th century English composer, William Ballet, adapted for mandolin quartet.

Andy, thanks for putting these out there. I was a choral musician all my professional life so many of these are familiar composers and pieces. Now I'm on the mandocello (thanks for your solo contribution to the CMSA set) and playing quartets, these should be fun!
I will be in the UK again for a few days in May, planning a visit to London this time. I'll check with you when the time gets close, but I won't have an instrument with me this time--will not take my K4 international.

Very nice. I just sang this in a concert accompanied by viola da gamba. It is a lovely song and a fine arrangement!

Thanks for this lovely seasonal offering, Andy. Here is my recording of your setting, on two mandolins, tenor guitar and mandocello.

Please note - this is NOT my arrangement, but one for 4 part vocal ensemble by Geoffrey Shaw (1879-1943).

It is such a simple yet beautiful arrangement that I didn't want to 'mess about' with it, so I simply transcribed it for mandolins

    It is lovely.

I wanted to play this for my son the other night, but for some reason my wife got mad when the four of us stepped into his room to play this.
