I just put off blowing 5” inches of snow to watch this! Now I get to blow 7 but, it was time well spent!
Thanks for sharing!
Forty minutes for a pretty basic driveway and sidewalk! More like 9”!!

It's really good. The Highwoods Stringband were an amazing band--bursting with energy and fun--and I'll never forget seeing them for the first time back in '75 or so. This documentary captures their spirit really well. No mandolin content, but if you love old-time music, you need to watch this.
The filmmaker, Larry Edelman, is a fine multi-instrumentalist and dance caller. These days he seems to be playing mostly fiddle, but he's a really good mandolinist, too, and some years ago he released a lovely CD of mandolin-oriented originals called Timepieces. I understand that it's been reissued, but I can't find a retail outlet for it. Worth a listen.

I saw the band a couple of times and such a powerful stage presence and obvious LOVE for what they were doing was palpable! I loved Doug’s guitars playing, it had a pretty big impact on how I play guitar to this day. The band was just HOT. The film really gives a lot of insight into “Band Dynamics” and how when it became a “job” it started not being the fun that it had been. That is a point that is less often discussed than might be good for new bands.

Great piece of advice!
I have had to get away from my band from time to time and Rock and Curly are still my closest friends! They have shared the highs and lows of almost everything in my life, for over 40 years. The bond we have is closer than I have with my family sometimes!
I’d trust them both with my wife and my dog as the old saying goes.

Back in the 80's when I was attending the Augusta Heritage Workshops, Larry Edelman was teaching dance and playing mandolin. He stopped by our mandolin class, taught by Lorraine Duisit and played a bunch of rags. He was a good player.
