    Default Enclosed tuning head

    Does anyone know anything about a German(?) made mandolin with the tuners enclosed in the head? Floral design on the back of the head.

    It sounds to me like you are describing a Stromberg-Voisinet mandolin- made in Chicago. Have a search at Google for photos. They were made in the 20s and early 30s before the company renamed itself Kay Kraft and then just Kay. Here is one on Reverb:
