They're asking $1000 CDN ($750ish US). Good price? - I can't rationalise spending that anyway, but curious.

    Thanks

I've sold three of these, I think ... but never for quite that much. They are cool instruments, though.

They cost a little over $700 thirty years ago, IIRC ...

Seller says this is less than he paid back then, but he could have been ripped off, or the CDN price could have been that mush more as was/is often the case.

I have one of these, bought about 12 years ago, and it's one of my favorite instruments.

The build quality is high--flamey maple neck, nice spruce top on a chambered hardwood body), nice binding and finish work.

The semi-hollow construction gives it a lively, snappy tone plugged in, and the pickup placement makes it very trebly and cutting. I think of it as the mando equivalent of a cross between and ES-335 and a Les Paul Junior.

I noticed that the pickup on the one you're looking at is different. Mine has what looks like half a Precision Bass pickup. I'd be interested in checking out how the one you're looking at sounds.

I didn't like the elaborate brass OEM bridge, so I replaced it with a Cumberland Acoustics ebony bridge, which the nice folks there made up for me with a flat base. That took a bit of the ice-pick edge and made it a little woodier sounding. I also ditched the pickguard, which I thought was ugly, changed the tuners for Gotoh minis, added a black tailpiece, and a strap button for the upper horn.

Next step for me is to have it refretted with taller and wider fretwire, and a new nut ( the spacing on mine if just random enough to bother me).

I don't remember exactly what I paid for it, but I think it was around $500 back then, and I bought it from a dealer.

I keep an eye out for these and have only seen a couple or a few on the market over the years, so I think it's a fairly rare bird.

There's one that has popped up on Craigslist from time to time at $895.

Here's one with a couple of small issues, also listed in the Cafe classifieds.
