I wonder what the process was for copying a Gibson, considering travel, lack of media, trade, etc. back then. Did someone bring a Gibson from America to be copied at some point?
I say that knowing in the 70's there was a point where the Japanese wanted to make a better copy of a Martin, so they bought a Martin, took it apart, measured it, etc. and started making more accurate copies -- Takamine, Aria, etc.....
I'm wonder in this case, if a "Gibson" was merely copied from a photograph rather than an actual mandolin?
Just a theory, for the sake of discussion.....
