Put two blue chips on your eyes to pay the ferryman and hide one in your mouth to play with.

And when we're gone from here, our friends will be drinking all the beer.

I have played it many, many times at weddings in central Texas. And, I actually heard Adolf Hofner's version on satellite radio!!!?!?!??!!

You could always have your spouse hide a few BC picks in your casket so you could take them with you ! Gene Autry ( if you're old enough to remember him ) always said he wanted to take his money with him when he died ! So, after he did die, his widow , Jackie, wrote out a check to Gene for over three hundred thousand dollars and placed it in the casket with him !

Well, not mandolins (and other musical instruments) only, I want all my pets with me (past and present) to make it TRULY Heaven! Besides, without my cats there, who will sleep in the Mandolin cases while we practice?

I'm assuming that the strings would be 'eternal strings' & last for eternity ?. That WOULD be heaven - NO string changes required !,

When he was once asked of dogs go to Heaven, the great philosopher/theologian Thomas Aquinas once said something along the lines of: 'Heaven is a place of great joy, and dogs bring people great joy - so dogs may go to Heaven.'

Given the nature of Aquinas' works, I believe it is perfectly safe to assume that he was not making a serious theological statement about Heaven and dogs . . . but just beware that even though, as you pass though the Pearly Gates, you may be handed a custom-made, perfectly-intonated mandolin with strings that last for all eternity - your heavenly jam session may include a few banjos, accordions, bag pipes, cow bells and even a few folks playing a comb with wax paper. Thankfully however, everybody will be in tune, the singer will remember all of the words, the harmony vocals will be tight and perfect, nobody will argue about who gets to take the lead, and everybody in the audience will be paying full attention to the music and will be truly appreciative and supportive of what you are doing. Now, THAT would be Heaven!

One of my mandolins sounds and plays like it was made there.

Hell sounds like so much more fun, with a better selection of instruments, better musicians and better company. I’m going there if I get a choice!

The way I figger it, mandolinists will be hanging out with mandolinists, or grassers will be with other grassers, and ya, accordionists will be with the accordionists, and we'll all be thinking that we're in heaven – the concepts of "heaven" and "hell" might just boil down to one's perspective.

What about mando-banjo players? Huh, huh? Loophole, perhaps? (I'm asking because someday I will buy one, and....)

Kinky Friedman says that when you get to heaven, all your pets that went before come running to greet you.

    And whatever the Kinkster says . . . .

Well, if cats, dogs etc are in heaven, I'm not sure I want to go there, but-------I'm not overly excited about the alternative either !

In heaven, we'll all be like "I am SO satisfied with my mandolin, I am just going to play this sucker and I never need to worry that there could be a better one somewhere, even though I'm in this place full of the world's most famous and talented (dead obviously) luthiers with the finest materials and tools available to them at all times and they are all totally at peace with themselves and doing their best work, nonetheless I am entirely content - wait am I still me? how does this work? I'm very confused."

Now-------- isn't this thread way more interesting than " Which pick ", Which strings", Oval or F holes" ?

I plan to set aside the first billion years of my eternity to study Bach. With Bach there all the time helping - because he will have eternity available too so why not. I'll probably get quite good after the first couple epochs have passed.

All of you folks have to get past all of us trumpet players, starting with Gabriel, of course. There’s room for all of us.

From Charlie Bernstein - " ..all your pets that went before come running to greet you." That's a wonderful thought. I'd never want to be without these 2 (or my wife !),
