    Default truss rod nut tight

I wanted to lower the relief of my cheap kit mandolin but the truss rod nut would not turn any more. It is not stuck as it will loosen easily. Read something about adding washers to the rod which is an inch down in the neck. What would the washers butt up against? Going to have to shave them down to get them in there too. Is this a good idea or should I live with the current relief?

No, do not live with the current action. I have added washers when the threads were to the end several times. Shave them down and they will seat against where the nut and washer is now. Use as many as you need to have threads to adjust action and play happily with a nice low action.
