    Default Riffstation app

I've used Riffstation for a while now to find chords to songs that i wish to play. However,it would seem that Riffstation's undergone a slight change. No longer can you simply 'search' for a specific rendition of a tune, there's now a downloadable 'app' for Riffstation onto which you can load any mp3,play it, & RS will work out the chords for you.

Here's the link to the downloadable app. :- https://play.riffstation.com/chords-...na/uQKjI6395iU

    There's also a 'slowdowner' / 'speeder-upper' / 'metromome' / 'pitch adjustment' etc.

I just downloaded it & ran it a couple of times, & it works really well. Here's a screenshot of the app.,

Note that the version that s available is a desktop app, that will not work on mobile devices like phones or iPads etc

Ivan, have you tried this app with different kinds of music? Do you know how it works on jazz, i.e. piano music?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Been using it for a couple years now on a "trial" basis. Sometimes it works pretty well....other times it gets confused and sends you all over the place trying to find the chords it "hears". The key change and speed variations work really well. I wouldn't think it would work out well for jazz as it sticks to major and minor chords....usually very basic chords but with a lot of chatter inside a measure if it hears anything outside of that because it is trying to make a basic chord out of a quick change. If you do download it make sure you get it directly from Riffstation or you might well wind up with a lot of vendor downloads that come along with it that are painful to try to get rid of.

Hi Tim - I honestly haven't tried it with anything other than Bluegrass / Folk / Country Rock (Eagles) & a few 'pop' songs - however,i'm interested to know if it will work,so i'll try it out sometime today. As ajh implies,i think that it could get a tad 'confused'.
I don't think that chords such as 'diminished' / maj 7th / min 7th / dominant 7th / augmented etc. are part of it's 'language'

Use the link that i posted - it IS the genuine Riffstation link,

    Thanks!

Just downloaded it. Seems to work fine if you have the file but I can't see a way to use it with music that you access via a streaming service like iTunes.

OneChord - I think that you'd have to download any tunes from iTunes first. I found that Riffstation also handles MP4's ok as well.

Tim - I just tried a Jazz guitar version of Moondance :- https://youtu.be/ZL9FERDtz1I Here's a screenshot of the chords that RS came up with.

Thanks, Ivan. I appreciate you going to the trouble. I am going to study on the video and the Riffstation chords. I am curious how it will handle extended and altered chords.

Hi Tim - All you can do is to try it out on whatever genre of music that you're interested in. It might at least give you a lead into a chord sequence even if it doesn't come up with all of them. I might just try a few Count Bassie or Oscar Peterson tunes to see how it does - not that i'd know if they were correct anyway (LOL !!),
