The A-12 is immediately suspicious. This is an F style.

On further reflection it does appear to be what the seller says. The logo is correct for a ~'72 A12. It would have take a whole new top to make the scroll look like that, but i was incorrect to question it's authenticity.

If it's this one it appears that was an A-12 Gibson Gumby lump scroll that someone attempted to cut a scroll on. This is what it looked like before. The seller alludes to the modification.

It is that one, however I think it must have been retopped entirely as the lump scroll top is flat in the scroll area and this mandolin now appears to sport a carved ridge in that area. The seller does allude to the modification, but I was initially skeptical. Seems it was the case afterall, but I was unable to delete the thread.

To be honest, it doesn't offend me and I must say -- I've certainly seen worse -- MUCH, MUCH WORSE!

It wouldn't have any collector value, but it is still a used Gibson and for a price, might be fun to own!

I just clicked Mike's link and I see that the seller has a starting bid of $2500 -- so I take back my last comment, I was thinking it would be fun for around $500 bucks or so. For $2500 you can get something a lot better, IMHO.

I have never seen anyone try to convert a “lumpy” to an F style before! You gotta give him points for chutzpah!

The previous owner who did that must have had the worst case of “scroll envy” in history!

If that is a A-12 with a converted scroll, it’s not bad. However, someone said that the whole top was replaced because of the scroll ridge not present on a A-12 and I would agree.
But never mind the scroll, that sunburst on the real A-12 is the ugliest I’ve ever seen from a Gibson. The lump doesn’t bother me anywhere near as much as that horrible sunburst.

...and while this does not look fake, this Vintage Gibson Mandolin 30681 (circa 1916?) https://ebay.us/msNbcr has a 1950's logo.

I'm wondering if that really was a A-12? The tuners, headstock inlay and back look like an F-9 or a more modern Gibson. The label looks right for an A-12.
