Thread: Tone-gard for Eastman mandocello?

  1. #1

    Default Tone-gard for Eastman mandocello?

I'd love to find a Tone-Gard for my Eastman mandocello - the resonance is far more pronounced when I can get it away from my body - but it looks like Tony has stopped taking custom orders. Damn, waited too long.

    a) I'm assuming that one of the standard guitar sizes won't fit. If somebody has an example to the contrary, let me know!

    b) Has anybody tried other ways of keeping it away from the body while still wearing a strap and sitting?

    Thanks (first post!)
    Jeff

Contact tonegard direct - the chap is super helpful. Helped me when I was buying mine for a mandolin - I sent him pics and pics of how I measured it even!!
They do custom tonegards if all else fails.

It says on the website he's no longer taking custom orders as of October 2018. Bummer. He was very helpful when ordering a custom for the Eastman 305 octave.

Ah that sucks. However mine adapts nicely between mando body sizes so I still think it's worth an email to him

I find that standing is the same as playing a guitar; not much luck in keeping it away from the body. Seated I use a kind of classical guitar approach to holding mine...seems to lessen the amount of the back of the instrument that comes into contact with my belly...er, body.

Yeah, I've thought about trying one of these support thingies: https://xguitars.com/products/sagewo...guitar-support
I can't do the footstool, it screws up my hips.

It's probably an extra issue with the Eastman because the body is so big, there's a lot of contact when reaching around it.

I don't use a foot stool either, just try to position the instrument [in the classical style] as best as I'm able. I've considered these supports in the past but never pulled the trigger on them: https://xguitars.com/collections/erg...uitar-supports I worry that the support will elevate the instrument making for discomfort in the arms and shoulders.
