Thread: MOP Bone extravaganza mandolin- with moth inlay- needs work- UK

Default MOP Bone extravaganza mandolin- with moth inlay- needs work- UK

This is quite an eye-opener and may have been quite reasonable quality. The inlay is of a moth- not butterfly- although whoever did it might have thought it was a butterfly! I don't know where it was made- probably Italy but it could be central Europe.

I don't much care for the mother-of-pearl up the neck, but otherwise for the price the condition doesn't look too bad, and the moth is interesting! Does not list shipping to the US though.....Thank you MAS preventer!

I think that moth is the Apostrophe Moth! In the UK, we do have a butterfly called a Comma as it has one on the back of its wings! I think the MOP mania went too far on this mandolin! Those tuners with their covers help suggest that this mandolin was more than a basic model covered with MOP but it does appear a bit too overdone!

I'm no expert, but based on what I see I agree with your assessment. Probably a quality build in its prime, and yes the MOP is way overdone. Would be a great curiosity piece at the least, for folk interested in owning such. 20 hours to go, and currently only at 33 GBP.
