    Default Old New Orleans Mandolin

"The "Six and 7/8 String Band of New Orleans play during the filming for the NBC "Today" show in 1963."

One of the last pictures of the famous trad jazz string band - mandolin and lap steel as lead instruments.

The band had been together since before WWI.

Thanks for posting! This is one of my favorite bands of all time! I tried to track down any surviving family members of the Mandolin player Bill Kleppinger but was completely unsuccessful. I would love to learn more about him and how he learned to play his music. Did any of his children follow in his footsteps? I found out that the guitar player's (Dr. Edmond Souchon) son was a traditional jazz musician in New Orleans and was alive as of a couple of years ago. But my efforts to track him down failed. Except for the liner notes of the 6 & 7/8's CD, there are very few details about Kleppinger and this band.

Could there be archival footage from the Today Show of them playing???
