One thing I've learned about mandolins is that they all respond differently to different picks so if you buy it and you don't like the tone, try a different pick.

From B381 - "....try a different pick." OR strings. My own Ellis "A" style certainly doesn't like EJ74's !. My Weber "Fern" doesn't like the GHS A270's that my Ellis loves !. My Lebeda 'Special' doesn't like A270's either,but loves DR MD11 strings - as does the Ellis.
Any mandolin player who's seeking to get the very best from their mandolin,'has to try' different string brands / gauges (IMO). It 'might' result in an improvement,or it might not. Only when you try 'em,will you find out. There's a perfect string / pick combo. for every mandolin out there - you simply need to try a few. It's taken around 11 years for me to find my own 'perfect combos.',but unless there's something completely revolutionary out there - i've found them !,
