Mandroid, thanks for clearing that up. I did indeed post about a button on the neck. I currently tie my strap with a piece of lether around the tailpiece and between the G and D tuners on the headstock. It does not interfere in any way, and I really have not seen any issues with it, but Mike Marshal suggested in a response to a video that I try to attach it at the body for better stability. I will probably try a strap under wrapped between the fingerboard and the sound hole just to see if there is any improvement in stability, but unless there is noticable improvement, I will keep the strap where it is.

At one Time, I Used a bit of Cord, tied around the head stock, as you have,
    and around the end button,

and in the middle I put a spring cord lock , in a loop, so made the length
    quickly adjustable..

Just a bit of blasphemy here. Carving, binding, and finishing the scroll on one F-5 convinced me there must be a better way to hang a strap. I too, feel a button on the heel of the neck interferes with your hand so I decided a small (5/32) hole through the heel to thread a black braided boot lace was the way to go. Granted, I drill the hole during construction before the heel is carved. You can just barely see the hole in this picture.Click image for larger version.

    Rob Roy,
That is an interesting approach. You can make it look like it was intended to be there and it solves the problem.
That is a beautiful instrument by the way.

It strikes me that anyone concerned that a strap button at the heel will get in the way should avoid pre-war Gibson A series mandolins.

I’m not exactly sure when they went from the shorter 9th fret/body join to the longer 12th fret/body joint but the shoulders of the earlier bodies take up far more space than a strap button.

Tying the strap to the headstock sucks on a guitar or mandolin. If I played an A, I’d put a button on it just like I do guitars.

All of a sudden, paying extra for that scroll doesn’t seem so silly

I don't worry about strap buttons on A styles, I loop around the body.
