Default WYNN MANDOLIN "THE JESSE McREYNOLDS MODEL" F5 copy

    https://ebay.us/K9m1qm

I don't know how good Wynn's Mandolins are... from what I've read this model was priced around $2,000+ in stores. I read somewhere that JESSE McREYNOLDS gave his to his grandson... so what does that tell you??? Looks like a real auction (on ebay).

    Anyone know anything about these?

I had one years ago. As far as I know, he didn't build very many of the 3 point McReynolds models. Mine was one of the first and I sold it back to John's son Barry, who is active in the music scene in Missouri. It was a well built mandolin, with sweet tone. Kinda heavy, as I recall, but played well.

Not me, it’s kind of in the “ugly scroll” column too.

I had an early Wynn 3 point, Late 70's? F-5 style and it was pretty good horn man! I believe I sold it back to Wynn's son? But it was a long time ago-2003-4?

Is it common here to be posting live auctions? just curious.. Most forums dont allow it.. unless its a Buy it Now only or a Scam waiting for its next victim ..

As long as it isn't your own live auction, and of course you probably wouldn't want to post a link to an auction you're planning on bidding on unless you want some stiff bidding competition.

So, it's not just me. I thought I was developing an astigmatism.
Still, it's priced cheap, at least for now at $605 with shipping.
    Thanks everybody,
    Mike

I think Wynn was going for a copy of the 3-point design, which has more of a forward-leaning scroll than the "modern" 2-point design. Look at some pics of old Gibson 3-points......some would say they look imbalanced or "ugly" vs a "Loar style."

Pretty close, not sure if it was traced from an actual Gibson or ? He was doing his mandolins early enough that it sort of makes sense, IMHO.

Since I can't find any Gibson three points with F-holes, this Wynn should be called an F5&1/2

    Maybe an F+4 7/8
There is an elegance to the three point F4’s which is not hinted at here, sorry this is just something unto itself. Just what, I’m not sure. But an F-5? I don’t think so.

I did not care for the scroll detail either. I guess it was a Wynn win for somebody, lol!

It was a fun auction to watch. I'm glad I was merely an onlooker, though. The only two bids that mattered occurred in the last 12 seconds. I hope one of us mc-ers got it so we can hear what it sounds like. I bet it sounds pretty good. And I don't mind the looks as seen the listing photos.
