Convert old Martin tenor to 6 string?

I'm thinking of sending my 1927 2-18 tenor to Martin to have them put on a new 6 string neck, tuners and bridge. Is this a nutty idea?

I converted an 0-18T back in the days when there weren't many quality short scale acoustic guitars being made. And I was able to get parts from a run of short scale dreads that Martin had made (for export only) from the old Luthiers Dream shop at Martin (is that what it was called?). A slotted fretboard, and rough neck blank slotted for square steel truss rod (I made one of carbon fiber). It came out nicely, and I sold it to a friend who had a young kid learning to play.

But today, there are plenty of small guitars available at many price points...

At least you know they will do a good job but have to ask you why?

You might get a faster turn around and as good if not better job sending it to Dave and Rich.
