Thread: Schaller Tuners - Black Buttons?

  1. #1

Default Schaller Tuners - Black Buttons?

I don't know much about changing out tuners (or mandolin construction in general ), but I heard that for Schaller tuners the buttons cannot be changed (wanting ebony buttons).

So I guess what I'm asking is if I'd want ebony buttons on my mandolin and I have Schaller tuning machines, would I have to change out the tuners completely to something else?

Peter Coombe might be willing to make you some ebony buttons. I don't know of any source for Schaller buttons other than the Ivoroid buttons that Stewmac sells. If someone has a source for ebony Schaller buttons hopefully they'll post them.

Frank Ford has an article on changing buttons on a set of Kluson's that might give you an idea of what you're up against.
