Thread: Beginners bluegrass book

    Default Beginners bluegrass book

I’m looking to get a paperback music book on bluegrass for beginners. I’m a fan of newgrass and want to learn the basics so I can get to jamming with friends. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I found the Sam Bush Bluegrass book and DVD was a good source. I will send you a Private Message with some info.

Jack Tottle’s Bluegrass Mandolin is a classic, has a lot of interesting extra historical info/pictures and has both tab and standard notation.

The Jack Tottle book is a good suggestion. Here is another https://www.amazon.com/Real-Bluegras...grass+fakebook Play daily. Tune each time you play. Enjoy. R/
    I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...

http://www.petimarpress.com/ - the books section, there are many shareware books (not free).

The old-time tunes books 1 and 2 are what you want, the double stops one might be your friend at some point too.

He's a good teacher too if you need one (everybody needs one at the beginning IMHO).
Davey Stuart tenor guitar (based on his 18" mandola design).
Eastman MD-604SB with Grover 309 tuners.
Eastwood 4 string electric mandostang, 2x Airline e-mandola (4-string) one strung as an e-OM.
DSP's: Helix HX Stomp, various Zooms.
    Amps: THR-10, Sony XB-20.
