Default Trumpet Voluntary by John Stanley 1712-1786

Trumpet Voluntary from 10 Voluntaries for Organ, Op 6 No 5 (1752) by this well-known English Organist and Composer of the 18th century. He was a contemporary of, and much admired by G F Handel

This very playable, lively piece is probably the best known of several 'Trumpet Tunes' composed by Stanley for the organ. It is basically a tune with accompaniment and is here arranged for a mandolin quintet/orchestra comprising 2 mandolins, 8ve mandola, guitar and bass. I have also included a part for Alto/tenor mandola (CGDA) as an alternative to the 8ve mandola, and a 2nd guitar part as an extra bass instrument.

Many thanks for this, Andy: that's a really nice piece and it works beautifully on mandolin. Good performance parts, as well!

I've just recorded my version of your arrangement, on two mandolins, octave mandolin, tenor guitar and mandocello. There are a fair number of Youtube versions, with a range of tempo choices. My tempo is similar to yours, which is towards the faster end of the spectrum for this piece.

    Mid-Missouri M-0W mandolin (x2)
    Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
    Vintage Viaten tenor guitar
    Suzuki MC-815 mandocello
