Default Best Mandolin Stand when using Tone Gard

There may already be a thread on this, so apologies for any redundancy.

I switch back and forth between mando and banjo when jamming, and use the same stand for each. The style is like a "Cooperstand" made of wood that unfolds. However, the Tone Gard on my mando makes the stability a little wonky.

Is there a go-to stand out there (good for jams) that really does the trick for you when using a Tone Gard on your F-style mando, and that doesn't require you to take time to carefully position it "just so?" I'd love some suggestions, if you've found something that does the trick for you.

    Thanks in advance!

I've used this successfully for several years ...my tonegard is no issue whatsoever with this hangar and this is just so handy when switching off to guitar . I paid about half this price as I recall for a slightly smaller version which fits into the pocket of my mando case when I pack it away

Thanks for the feedback, roysboy. Looks like a pretty sweet solution if you are already using either a guitar stand, or a mic stand. Not exactly going to work for my situation, but I'll bet it will for some others on this forum. Thanks!

An Ultimate GS100, cut down about 4.5” is a great solution.

Hercules instrument stand. I use it for my mandolin with tone guard, no problems. Will also adjust high enough for Banjo length.

Thanks, guys. Both of those look like pretty good options. Spufman...is cutting it down to size just a question of using a hacksaw, and reattaching the top cap portion?

This is what use. I didn't cut mine, I added a piece of pipe foam for the back of the mando to be protected.

These have always worked for me, with or w/o a Tone Gard.

You can see a couple of them in use in my "Avatar" picture.

Thanks, Christine. I can't seem to enlarge your avatar pic, so my question is: does this stand work well with an F-style body?

I bought 3 of these to use with guitars but found they work really well for mandolin. Locking hanger holds mandolin headstock securely and height and back rest adjust to mandolin perfectly. I like how the back rest keeps mandolin stable

    Tom--

I've never owned an F-style. But, since the instrument is held only at 3 points--back of neck, and at 2 points on the bottom, the sides are completely free. So I can't imagine why it wouldn't work fine.

Thanks, everyone, for the great feedback. I checked out all of your ideas and suggestions, checked out our local music store scene, Amazon, etc., and just got back from Guitar Center where I found a "ProLine Mandolin/Uke Stand." It's akin to the suspension approach most of you like, and it's totally perfect. In fact, it was only $15, to boot. Thanks again! Tom.

Like spufman I also use a modified Ultimate GS 100 stand for my mandolin, works great.

I'd agree whole heartedly. I have a three instrument hercules stand that works for mandolin, guitar, mandocello all quite well. Been very pleased & I'm sure that a mandolin with a toneguard would also do well.
