Default Muleskinner Mandolins latest batch - May 2018 (video demo)

    Hey all

I already posted a few photos and clips of the black top mandolin from this batch of 3 at this link: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/s...ian-blackwood)

But wanted to shared the other 2 from that round of mandos with the Cafe folks.

Here is an overview video of the 3 instruments, talking about the inspiration and woods used for each and how they have been opening up since I put strings on them.

And info/sound + video clips on the others:

    #012 Oval hole (yellow birch/adirondack spruce): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsw8_Gl3de0

It has been great sharing these builds with everyone here on the forum!

Just wanted to share a little clip of someone other than the builder of the instruments playing them!

Muleskinner had a booth at the wonderful Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots festival where mando-maestros such as Joe K. Walsh, Sierra Hull, Andrew Marlin and Matt Flinner graced the stage. As much as we loved taking in the tunes on the mainstage from the vendor tent it was the magic unfolding right there in our booth that got us all revved up!

Here is multi-instrumentalist Patrick Gunning playing the blueburst mando from the May batch. Happy to say that this mandolin was purchased at the festival by Geoff Goodhue of a great Vermont based band called Beg, Steal or Borrow (check them out here: https://www.begstealorborrowvt.com/).

And check out Patick picking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCUumd4mf4w

Very nice. Lovely instruments. I especially liked the blacktop with Blackwood back and sides.

How do you get the mule skins over the tops and backs of the mandolins?

I was also fortunate enough to be at the Green Mountain Bluegrass and Roots Festival and had the pleasure of stumbling upon Andy’s tent the first evening of the festival. Andy’s tent was very welcoming, provided great conversation, and had a slew of mandolins to pick on. My favorite was an A-5 with black walnut back and sides that played incredibly easy and had a very full tone, but without loosing any of it’s ability to cut through other instruments in a jam. In addition to building fine mandolins, Andy also was a pleasure to talk to and my impression is that he is a genuinely good guy who has a great knack for building fine instruments. If I weren’t in a committed relationship with my White F-5, I would have had to take a serious look at a withdrawal from savings!

Was great to have you in the booth. That White F-5 was a beautiful instrument!
