Thread: Bobelock Case

After Scotti informing us of the new Bobelock case with the hydometer kit installed I contacted Frank Eastes at www.finecases.com. Looks like Bobelock is building a upgraded case just for finecases.com. The upgrades are grey cover, leatherette handle, and hygrometer kit installed. I mentioned that there has been a lot of discussion on these cases lately and he might think about a Mandolin Cafe special....I got this reply

"I only recently became aware of the Mandolin Cafe connection--and I actually do plan on running a special for MandolinCafe folks. Basically, the special will be if you mention MandolinCafe I'll throw in a Long Hollow Leather softy mandolin strap (these are really great hand-made straps). The folks who frequent MandolinCafe have been very gracious with my website, so I want to do this as a way of thanking them."

The case is $220 including shipping. I'm ordering one on payday! Just figured I would give a "heads up".

It would be cool to see some more of these "Cafe Members Specials"! Maybe an idea for the future.....think how many intellitouch have been purchased by cafe folks. If we could get a vendor to give us a special on this type of thing it would be great to pool our buying power. Just a thought....I have no financial interest other than saving a buck or two!

Mr. Wilcox of BRW was offering these cases in his February " bonus case" special, so I guess he likes them - question: does the hygrometer kit both measure AND control humidity? The Ameritage case does that but is like $329 at FQMS and that's the only other one I've noticed that does both. (The Ameritage case also indicates temperature, but I view that as less important since you can kinda figure that out on your own, and I don't make a habit of leaving my instruments out in the sun on a hot day or in the snow in winter....)

    Scotti,

That's my case for sale. It doesn't have the hygrometer inside. I've used a planet waves device for my mando.

Thanks Scotti. I won't be up that way for a little while. I'll just try to deal with Wayne. (We've been emailing off board this morning)

What's your take on these cases? I've never heard of them. From what I've found on the Internet, they list @ $280 and can be gotten on some Specials as low as $200. Do you think my Flatiron F-5 Special deserves the upgrade from the Shaped F generic case it's currently living in??? The fact that Wayne's has no hygrometer/humidifier doesn't really bother me. Should I pull the proverbial trigger?

The hygometer/humidity device looks like the Model One Combo at http://www.humistat.com/

I put the Model One combo in a Rigel case a few weeks ago and it doesn't seem to have made any difference in the humidity of the case. #I have the vents wide open and the humidity is about 40%-- same as it was prior to installation.

BTW-- installation is via small patches of adhesive backed velcro. #If your case has thick furry stuff on the inside, mounting is a bit dodgy.

My wife gave me one of these great cases for Christmas and it really is a quality piece of work. It seems a little heavier than most, but I feel that any mandolin I carry in it will be quite well protected. I really like the storage space available for other materials. Try one; I think you'll like it!

Even though I recently sold mine with a mandolin I'd like to give the Bobelock a vote.....

I had been turned onto it when Scotti first got his,and at that point I feel that I found the perfect case and I'd had Calton,Presto and others. Its not the flight case type that some prefer, but for a normal picker who plays locally/regionally its the perfect fit and protection

I just got my mando/fiddle case from Fine Cases. I already had a Bobelock for a single fiddle so I knew they were a great case. Fine Cases is a great seller too. Good price, with fast response and shipping. I highly recommend them. Their ad at the Cafe is:

This is the same humidity measuring/contol device that Bobelock offers-- #you might consider adding one to your exising case.

    NFI-- just a satisfied user.
