Thanks for the link and update. i'm looking forward to trying the Martin Monels in my next string order. i must say that Just Strings was very, very responsive to my request in stocking them. Maybe i was only one of many who want them.
I just ordered some for my oval hole; I'm looking forward to trying them out!
I just restrung with a Curt Mangan Monel set (11-15-26-40), which I'm liking a lot. I will try the Martin version in my next strings order.
Since Martin strings are made in Mexico, will any of the changes in our trade status with that country effect the price of these strings? Just curious not wanting to start a riot here.
The Martin Monel medium strings I just ordered from Musician's Friend were $5.99 per set.
No need for a riot. Yet.
Daddario NB Custom mediums are twice as much.
Hope they are at least half as good.
I bought one set of the Martin Strings at American Musical Supply, paid no shipping. Put them on my Collings and wow! They are nice. Good sound, good feel I think I'm going to like them a lot.
I'm still experimenting with Daddario Nickel Bronze(custom mediums) on F5 and snakehead mandos. Probably won't get to try ot the Martin Monels
for a few months or longer. Looking forward to trying them on the snakehead.
Did one ever wonder about a deal between Martin and D'Addario on things like mandolin and banjo strings? The old Martin Bluegrass fiddle strings were actually D'Addario Prelude strings. Something to ponder with the new announcement of D'Addario's new monel strings. Gauges sync up across the brands. I am thinking I like nickel better, but will put the monel on my mando through a good test first before going back.
I put a set of Martin Monel M465 on my Eastman MD305 a couple of weeks ago. After a few days, they seemed to mellow a bit, giving a very dry, woody tone. I like them for single notes and runs. but miss the louder, fatter bottom end chomp and sustain of phosphor bronze.
