Default NMD - Girouard Studio F5

I've had it now for a few days. This is part of the email I sent to Max Girouard about this mandolin:

I've had the Studio F5 in my hands for about 3 days now.

I can't believe how impressive the tone is. Everyone always refers to the quality of the Gibson tone, and my impression of your instrument is that it is a richer, more versatile version of the Gibson tone. It is outstanding. Truly an instrument on which I would be comfortable playing any type of music. The power and tone is just amazing.

The build quality itself is flawless. There is a delightful understated beauty in the workmanship. I particularly like the inlay on the head stock. Simply elegant.

I am more than thrilled that I went with Girouard for my purchase as opposed to a mass produced instrument. The difference is huge.

I'm not great at describing tone, and it certainly is subjective. That being said, I couldn't be more pleased with the tone, playability, and craftsmanship that this instrument has. For what I was looking for, it fits the bill and then some.

If you have the opportunity to try a Girouard instrument, I think you'll be impressed.

Now, if only they sold talent......

Welcome to the club! I own two of Max and Laurie's instruments.

Yes, tone is always subjective, but I like your description that "it is a richer, more versatile version of the Gibson tone."

I also heard a description of a Girouard mando from the folks at Fiddler's Green that I thought was apt: "This mandolin has a rich, full sound with lots of sustain and ring. There is a nice fundamental woody quality to the tone, but it also has that mid and high sparkle associated with most modern professional mandolins."

Your mando looks amazing; good to know it sounds that way as well.

Congrats! Your F5 is gorgeous. Max and Lauri are making some mighty fine instruments these days. Love my Girouard mandola.

Congratulations on your new mandolin. I own #83 and it is very similar to yours, one piece back and the top wood has some fairly wide grain from the F-holes to the edge.
    Enjoy!

Thanks for your post, and your very positive review.

I've been a fan of their work for a while, and finally put in an order for an A-oval.

That's pretty neat, my A5 is #170, Feb 2018. I don't know why that seems cool to me, but it does. Wonder how many consecutive numbers can be found on the cafe.

    Interesting idea!

Can others chime in with the DOB and SN of their Girouards?

There's an "A" for sale in the Classifieds as of today.

If someone is looking, seems like a good deal. NFI, just passing on the info.
