Default 2018 Convention of the Classical Mandolin Society of America

Hello, classical fans as well as the many other genres represented here!

This is the start of the thread for news on the CMSA's 2018 Convention.

Our destination this year is Santa Rosa California! Come enjoy wine country beginning November 13th through Saturday November 18th.

Our very able hosts this year are the Aurora Mandolin Orchestra, the Gravenstein Mandolin Ensemble and the San Francisco Mandolin Orchestra.

You can make your hotel reservations now. We do expect to sell out this year once our performers are announced.

The price for a standard room is $139 per night before taxes. This rate is good for 3 days before AND after the convention.

You can make your reservations using this link:

    https://reservations.travelclick.com...23/datesofstay

Looking forward to seeing you there! And stay tuned for more information as it breaks!

Wish I could come, but it's just too far away. I'll enjoy reading about it and all of the activities though!

I would love to go again. I only go when i can drive there in one day. It would be great to meet my Californian cohorts but... ah, someday.

Hour drive or thereabouts from the conference center to the Mandolin Winery headquarters. But of course lots of great vino in that part of the country.

Looking forward to meeting up with old friends and friends I don’t know yet. What could be better in the fall than wine, old Friends, Mandolin, More Wine, MORE Mandolin & new friends. This is going to be a great convention.

"We do expect to sell out this year...." Will the number of tickets sell out, or just the number of rooms at the hotel?

I can answer that question as a member of the local convention committee. The reserved block of discount hotel rooms will certainly sell out. The convention itself is not expected to. We are excited to host it, 'come play with us'!

Just as pumped as everybody--maybe a little more; recently moved up to a Gibson K4 mandocello beauty, and working hard at the orchestra parts (whew ! are those 16th notes??). Sent the mandocello section a packet of samples for the solo MC workshop, hoping for more bass clef action in the future. Also very pleased with our section leader Jim Trepasso, sending out fingering suggestions and offering much needed encouragement. Seeya!

I am registered for the mc section at the convention, and I didn't receive either via email.
I checked my Gmail spam, and still no luck....
    can somebody help me out?
i've been tackling measures 25-54 of the Tanz Suite in a vacuum

I've sent you an email to your CMSA registered email address with the MC section handout w/fingerings for the Tanz Suite. If you don't receive this very soon, please PM here and I will see what else I can do.

I think I replied to your "private" message, but just in case, the Solo Mandocello session is a workshop, separate from the orchestra and sectionals. I will have packets of the music for you, so do please join us for the workshop. Any questions, use jfimhoff@msn.com so we don't have to go through Cafe website. See you soon!

Since we are all in on this conversation I would suggest to upload the files to a public folder on Dropbox or similar platform and sending him and other registrants the link. Is it possible that the files you are sending as email attachments are too large for the setting on his computer and they are being blocked? Only people who have the links can download the documents. Just a suggestion. Man, I wish I could be there.

    Jim Garber:
I only heard from one person that she could not download the files, and I re-sent. Other than that, I haven't heard from anyone with a problem. mlewis simply was not on the list and I will have paper copy for anyone who attends the workshop. But again, that is all separate from the orchestra music.
And I wish you could be there too--you have been such a great help in compiling the mandocello literature!

Had a great experience at the convention, some powerful, challenging and beautiful orchestral music. Learned so much, and came home ready to practice harder. Thanks and congratulations to the board and the hosts! I was also surprised by the turnout at the Solo Mandocello session; anyone looking for that music please check out the CBOM thread.

It was great fun - and perhaps one day I will be composing for that mandolin orchestra! I had never heard a large mandolin group in person before.
