Default Surely I am not the first to suggest a MandolinCafe gathering?

As a habitual lurker, and sometimes poster, I often think what fun it would be to see all of the frequent posters (you know who you are) here on Mandolin Cafe, all in one banquet hall, shootin' the breeze, and picking. In person.

Scott, I hear that you are roughly in the center of the US of A. It would be as good a place as any to call for a gathering, a conclave, a rendezvous or sorts of the frequenters of Mandolin Cafe.

    Thoughts all?

Please, Mods, don't remind me to search, that this has been mentioned before, etc. Everything has been mentioned before. Mods, by the way, will get free drinks at the bar if we can find a sponsor willing to pony up.

I hosted a couple regional cafe gatherings a few years back. Had folks from Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania. I think the first one had around 15-20 people. Was fun getting to meet some people and am still in touch with a couple of them.

Here's a link to that. It just started as a couple of us wanting to meet up to over a dozen people.

Is there a listing/map somewhere of how many Cafe members are from each state, country etc.? That might help to serve as a better 'central' location to possibly attract the most Cafe users. Or perhaps do 'regional' gatherings, rather than a large national one.

Sounds good Brad. Mmmmm... beer. And maybe a taco truck parked outside too.
Best of all, the members who have me on their 'ignore' list won't know I'm coming!

Surely, if you've ever been in a room with one other mandolin player, you've had a Mandolin Cafe gathering.

My favorite part would be the mandolin pictures. Maybe a Cafe Conclave poster.

I’ll go if it’s in the NW. Portland claims it has the most craft breweries of any city. I don’t know if that’s true, but there sure is a lot of them.

I could make Portland or Seattle work for sure! I'd be happy in either city too.

It felt like a mini-MandolinCafe gathering last year at the Armuchee Bluegrass Festival. We had several mandolin players with their Cafe ball caps on at a very good jam session. One other member and I felt a little out of the loop since we didn't have a cap, but it was fun to have the Cafe in common.

I know one Cafe stalwart who is seriously considering relocation to Chiang Mai (where I am), so that could be the start of something regional.....

Don't be so USA-centric. Bear in mind that there are a decent number of people in the Canada, UK and Europe as well as some in Asia and Australia.

I am in the NE US but I don't think anyone ever mentioned a gathering even remotely near me.

Several years ago I suggested a meet at the big festival in Winfield KS. No love, and that is possibly the most centralized and inclusive gathering of mandolins ever. Correct me if I am mistaken. Just too problematic to happen on anything like a large scale. Keep it small and localized, it can happen.
