Default Who's Going to Bluegrass from the Forest?

May 18 - 20, Shelton WA. I've never been, but I have that week off. Who's going? Who's been before?

It's a great little festival. Other than Wintergrass, it's basically the first festival of the season in Washington State. The main concert venue is the school theater. The acoustics are great. The sound is run by Jackson Linder, who pretty much one of the best live sound engineers for bluegrass in the Northwest. Over the years, the band selection has been good. Other than the concerts, there is a banjo contest, a mandolin tasting, and workshops. This years line-up includes Kathy Kallick Band, Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, Mile Twelve, and several local groups. The mandolin content is enough to make this worthwhile.

Great little festival, went the last 2 years. If you're camping, get there early on Friday (like 90 minutes) to get in line to get a good spot. Can be cold and damp, so be prepared.

True, it's in May so it could be a little chilly, 'specially at night. But they've had some years where the temp has been good. At night, the main building is open for jamming. A lot of pickers from the national groups will hang and jam that anyone can join in. Great jams have happened with Michael Cleveland's group, Special Consensus, Frank Solivan and DK, etc. All the groups have been very approachable and fun to hang with.

Good to know! Thanks for posting Mandobart. Shelton's close to my neck of the woods. Might have to drop by for a visit.
