Default John Abercrombie live on mando in 1979 - Youtube

John Abercrombie from my favorite part of his career. While he didn't tune it like a mando, he is performing on electric mandolin for the first song in this video. After that he switches to the mandolin's larger, lesser cousin.

Effective use of the Fender 4, retuned or not.
Glad to hear it in good Jazz hands. Interesting cat, that Abercrombie.

Very cool. I have an album from the early 80s, I think it's a McCoy Tyner lp, with him on the emando, but this is the first video I know of. Abercrombie talked about it in the liner notes and said that the inspiration was Coltrane's soprano sax.

John Abercrombie passed in August of last year, if you didn't know.
