If you don't need the boost Daren can convert it to a mute. I left the boost on mine and drilled a mini switch for a mute. I like having the mute, even tho I didn't use the boost much didn't want to loose it.

I use K&K passive pickups and a Red-Eye - and am happy at last, after trying several other pickups and preamps.

The Red-Eye is easy to use and sounds great.

As for the muting, you can also just stick any pedal with true bypass in front of it. Or a tuner pedal. Or a channel switch (e.g. an AB box).

Lots of people go with the tuner option. I use a true bypass pedal now and have an ABCD box on order.

I like to use the phantom to power the pre so I don't want anything in front of it, but yea the battery last a long time so that also works.

I like my red eye fire eye way more than the baggs venue I use to own.

Great thread, which happens to piggyback on a few other fairly recent ones I have been stalking. I'm really looking into the Red Eye as well. I run a K&K Twin in my Northfield. First had the Baggs, meh. Upgraded to the ToneBone and I love it, but still leaves a bit of tone to be desired and the Red Eye sounds like the solution. Anyone who made the switch from ToneBone to Red Eye can you share your experience too? Thanks!

I go three instruments into A-B-C box, output to RedEye. I have a tuner pedal in the send/return loop of the RedEye. Need to mute when selecting different instruments on the A-B-C box, or a loud pop comes through my amp. XLR output on RedEye goes to board or amp, which also supplies 48 volt phantom back to the RedEye.

If you use an ABC pedal that is just switches, as Bart must be doing, there will be a pop when changing. If you use a gated pedal the pop will be gone, but so will your impedance match to your RedEye. The tuner mute is a great option if you use that kind of tuner and the send/return of the RedEye. You can use a headstock tuner and just use the tuner for muting, I gave an old pedal tuner to a friend that didn't tune accurately for almost that purpose, we used it to switch channels on her amp for a rhythm/lead volume change.
