Thread: Question about chords for tenor...

Default Question about chords for tenor...

For those of you who play both tenor guitar and mandolin, do you try to use the same fingers for chord shapes where possible?

On my mandolin, I can comfortably play (for example) a 3-finger A chord (224x) with just finger 1 and 2. On tenor, this isn't comfortable. Do you think there are benefits from using the same fingers where possible?

I use barre chords for tenor guitar and mandolin but expect to use your pinky a lot more on the tenor guitar. It might be worth it to get this book.........

On the tenor tuned cgda your 2240 A chord is a D chord. Sometimes I play it as 2200, sometimes 2240, sometimes 2245. It depends on the song

I tend toward dyads and triads and move in string sets.

I play 5-string mandolin and a 6-string extended range tenor along with regular mando and tenor and find this approach lets me move between instruments fairly easily.
