Default Is there an archive of American Guild materials anywhere?

I'm interested in getting photocopies (or digital images) of the concert program(s) - and any other related material - for the Second Annual Convention of the American Guild of Banjoists, Mandolinists and Guitarists that was held in Philadelphia in January 1903. Anybody know who might have this? I can provide more specifics. (I've already tried All Frets and other offshoots of the original American Guild.) Thanks.

Hey Jim: I wish I could help you. I have a panoramic photo of American Guild from their convention in Chicago in 1933. I guess I am just 30 years too late.

Would the info you are seeking be in either the Crescendo or the Cadenza periodicals? The Library of Congress (catalog.loc.gov) seems to have full runs of both Crescendo and Cadenza:

Good suggestions, mandogio, thanks, but I've already looked through Cadenzas (Crescendo didn't start until 1908). I'm researching a Baltimore concert mandolinist named C. J. Levin. He performed at that 1903 American Guild convention. Cadenza had information about him, but I'm greedy -- always looking for more. I'm hoping that the concert program -- if I can ever get to see one -- has additional biographical information about him.

I was browsing earlier today and found Chas. Levin mentioned in a June 1906 concert reviewed with program in the "Cadenza" Vol. 13, No.1 (Sep. issue). see attached. BTW, I use the NYPL to access the magazine. They have issues starting in 1897 through 1922.

Thanks for the post, Mandophile. I had already seen that blurb in the Cadenza too. I never did get the American Guild program I was looking for though...*sigh*

Jim, you might try contacting Paul Ruppa. I think the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra might have been around then and I think they may have saved some of that material.I was librarian for the New York MO years ago and I think they had a scrapbook or files with programs but NYMO started much later around 1924.

Jim, I've been in touch with Paul too, but I don't believe I asked him about this particular thing. Thanks for thinking of it. It might be worth a try.

Sorry for the pokey responding - I found the concert program for and a review of that Guild convention in the February 1903 Cadenza on pages 37-39. Jim, there is even a little complimentary verbiage for Levin's performance of "Perpetuum Mobile." To get jpegs or photocopies of those pages, check with Gregg Miner at Harpguitars.net. Regards - Paul
