Re: Snowbound
Of the 15 highest-average-snowfall cities in the US (population over 50K), five are in NY, and one's just over the border (Erie PA). Buffalo's #1, and here in Rochester we're #3, with average of 87.8 inches (7.32 feet) December through March -- based on the last 30 years. If you add in smaller cities in the state, Jamestown "boasts" 146 inches annually, Batavia 142, Fulton 123, and Oswego 112.
Our first big snowfall's on the way for tonight through Wednesday, followed by our usual bouts of "lake effect." I've got gigs the next three days, so wish me luck.
I do understand that in places where snow's not the normal order of business, panic ensues, and the town's one snowplow is dragged out of mothballs to make valiant efforts to clear paths to work, school, and the Thursday jam at the pub. Here we just shrug and trudge through the fluff, on about our daily routines.
And we could be in Park City UT -- 411 inches of snow per year, on average. That's 34.3 feet. Even veteran upstate NY-ers might find that daunting.
