Thread: Any collections of chord sheets available online?

Default Any collections of chord sheets available online?

I'm new to the world of Mandolin (and indeed to Bluegrass and associated music)

I have found a Bluegrass Jam near me (no mean feat in the UK ;-) ) and I've got up the courage to go and join in, but I'd like to be able to work on tunes at home, and have sheets with me, so to that end, are there any collections of chord sheets online or is it a matter of searching out individual tunes one by one?

I'd just like to have a fighting chance of having something to hand (I'll put them on my ipad) if something gets called...

thanks in advance for any pointers,
    T

There’s the café chord library here https://www.mandolincafe.com/cgi-bin/chords/ch.pl if that helps?

Otherwise I’ve had a lot of success with Googling the song name + mandolin tab.

Are you the same TimO that’s active on a UK cycling forum?

Thanks OneChordTrick - I'll check that out.

i've not managed to get a regular song list out of the group so I may just have to grab random stuff and build up a library...

No, I have not succumbed to the M.A.M.I.L. thing yet! :-) I do go on a UK guitar forum a fair bit though. (slightly different username)

Healthy folk scene for live groups but I haven’t plucked up the courage to join the local folk group.

Where’s the jam that you’ve found? I’m possibly just over the border from you in Wantage.

Do you read tablature? Standard notation?

There is an app that is widely used called Tabledit and a great many tunes have been transcribed in that format; for instance, see the Tabledit archive at mandozine.com http://www.mandozine.com/music/tabledit_search.php

Many, many songs there in the bluegrass genre with mandolin solos. Tabledit provides tablature + standard notation and most of those files also indicate the chord changes. Will also play the tunes as midi audio. Can be read with the Tabledit full program (license fee) or with the free Tabledit viewer. You can check those out at this site: http://www.tabledit.com/

Also, here at the cafe, there is a tab near the top labeled "Learn/Listen" and in that menu you can find Tabledit files as well as text files containing tablature. Also under "Learn/Listen" there is a chord library.

For PDF files, one great site of many is this UK site: http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/

That site has tens of thousands of PDF sheets. The site is so big that it can be a little difficult to navigate. Here are a few mandolin-specific pages. Many of the sheets have chord changes written above the melodies.

That's always a good option for any specific tune.

In sunny Swindon! it runs weekly (Wednesday) - they don't have a Mando player currently (a shame as I was hoping to learn from someone more experienced) - friendly bunch - they have a Facebook page but don't use it that much
