    Default Dominick Leslie- Watson's Blues Transcription

    Here's another transcription for a nice Saturday pickin' tune. I've always dug Dom's phrasing and rhythm in his playing and thought this would be a good song to look at those things. Plus, Watson's Blues is a great song so it works out perfectly. As you usual I'll post the video and the transcription below:

    I believe in bar 18 he's splitting the e course.

    He does indeed split the string there, though I sadly can't do much to fix that in Sibelius... Plus it was a little late last night when I did it and just forgot to mention it. But I can write in the transcription about it, here's the updates one.

    That's a minor point, really. It's a very good and instructive transcription. For one thing it illustrates the value (and need) of rhythmic variety in Bluegrass in place of just long tremoloes or streams of eighth notes. One of several features that struck me on listening was Leslie's tendency to end descending phrases on the seventh of the chord. I also liked the way he incorporated that Watson blues lick in his solo (bar 42).
