    I just threw some shellac on the back of my latest to see what it might look like. I hope thew picture shows the three different colors. Fades from red to brown to yellow and back again. I do wish the red was between the yellow and brown but who can argue with mother nature

    That would be Claro Walnut Spruce. Harder than any maple I've come across. I was figuring it to be a lot easier to carve but I was fooled. If I ever need to carve a mandolin out of granite I'll be ready though.
