Default Style not filled in on 2003 Gibson F9 decal

Hello, I have a 2003 Gibson F9 that has the serial # filled in on the inside of the body decal, but the style (F9) is not filled in. I've looked at it very closely and it hasn't been erased or altered in any way. Does anyone know why the style may have been omitted? The decal says "The Gibson Master Model" above the blank style line. I have attempted to post a picture of the decal and picture of the entire mandolin. Thanks

Hmmm, it looks like a typical 2003 F-9 to me, including a "The Gibson" tailpiece cover instead of just "Gibson" on the first year (2002) models.

If it's any help, here's how the label looks on my 2002 F-9:

If it's a serious concern, you could send it to Gibson to have them write the model number in. Or if authentic-ness isn't an issue, you could write it yourself. Or you could leave it as is, it might be pretty unique.

Looks like an F-9 to me. I wouldn't worry about it.

Gee, a factory-process oversight! At Gibson! Who woulda thunk it...

I'd write "F-9" in there myself, if it were my instrument. Then I'd sign it "Lloyd Loar," just to make everyone crazy when some future owner listed it on eBay.

CES, you may be right that it was filled out on Friday afternoon. Maybe they intended to finish filling it out on Monday and forgot.

Probably worth a letter to Gibson asking them to confirm exactly what it is. You can then keep their reply with the instrument for whoever inherits it. They might even send you a replacement label!

My F9 was 2nd out the door on April 1, 2002 and I have a flowerpot inlay on the headstock! So apparently on any given day, the factory mixed and matched "stuff" (labels and such) I don't think there's another "April Fool" F9 like mine! It's kind of cool when you get something a little bit different - intentional or not!

Yeah: "Hey, this F-9 body's ready to go, where's the neck?"

"Not done, but we have this F-5G neck waiting for a body."

"Heck, let's use the F-5G neck on the F-9; got a deadline to meet."

    Nice...

Do I notice that this also has wider than the standard thin "wire" frets? Perhaps also a lighter color stain than other F-9s that I've seen. I wonder if this was a custom order...
