Default New Band Finds to Share

This should be simple: What new bands have you come across this festival season that features mandolin in some way, but is new and young (going for bands others may not have heard of, but should know about) and does not play straight, traditional bluegrass. In short, what are the hipster musicians using the mandolin for. Try to keep it to kids people probably won't know. I'll start with my recommendation for all to hear:

New to me but probably not to others: Phoebe Hunt and The Gatherers. Dominick Leslie on mandolin. Saw them at the Pagosa Folk n Bluegrass fest in June.

I became aware of this band when the mandolin player, Luke Fraser, recently decided to relocate to my hometown, Halifax.

I became aware of the Bombadils when I sold Luke that Heiden A5. He's putting it to good use! Never met him but talked to him on the phone several times.

    Love this. Thanks!

Phoebe Hunt's new band is great, also. Great fiddler, she is.

Seems like "new" usually equates to a band working hard for 6 or 7 years before being "discovered". I saw this group of young folks a couple of months ago in small performing arts center. Truly awesome.

One of the most energetic and likeable groups I've encountered in a long time.

Nice! Elephant Sessions nice take on trad, and like the poor drummer locked in the isolation room on Mandolin orange. I know that's not supposed to be the point, but ya just can't help noticing..

Simple songs with simple parts are my favorites. I recently found a contemporary praise group called Dwell while cruising NoiseTrade. Nice song with a lovely little mandolin part:

Ha! Theo's an odd duck. Most all of her music is sort of a strange blend of beatnik-hipster stuff crossed with indy pop and free jazz. She also does some very avant-guard work with the TuNe YaRds, kind of free-association words over complex beats. I don't think anyone ever accused her of being a good player of any instrument (except whoever put that one video up) but she does do the alt-indy-rock thing well, on occasion. Here's a tune that might be more to your liking, but it's still different.. Words? sort of arbitrary. Give it a couple minutes to get through chorus or two.
